US President Donald Trump has threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act in Minnesota following the ongoing protest and fatal shooting of a woman by a federal immigration agent.
Trump issued the warning on Thursday via social media, saying he would activate the law if Minnesota officials failed to enforce the law and stop what he described as agitators attacking Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
He said the situation in the state had become untenable and vowed to end it if necessary.
“If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of ICE, who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State.”

The protests intensified after an immigration agent shot and wounded a man in Minneapolis on Wednesday, marking the second shooting involving an ICE officer in the city within a week.
The earlier incident resulted in the death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, triggering days of demonstrations and an increased federal presence.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said the latest shooting occurred during a struggle between an ICE agent and a man outside a residence. During the altercation, the agent discharged his weapon, injuring the man in the leg.
Authorities said two other individuals came from a nearby building and attacked the agent using a snow shovel and a broom handle. The injured man, identified as a Venezuelan national, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while the two others were arrested.
The Department of Homeland Security said the federal agents were carrying out their duties when the confrontation occurred.
The Insurrection Act allows the president to deploy military forces for law enforcement purposes during periods of severe civil unrest. It was last invoked in 1992 by President George H.W. Bush during the Los Angeles riots that followed the acquittal of police officers involved in the beating of Rodney King.
