Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Super Eagles following their bronze medal finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Tinubu, in a statement on Saturday signed by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, praised the national team for rebounding from their semi-final defeat to host nation Morocco and securing third place at the tournament.

Nigeria claimed the bronze medal after defeating Egypt, a seven-time AFCON champion, in a penalty shootout. Regular time ended without a winner, with the Super Eagles dominating large spells of the match.

President Tinubu said the team’s performance reflected Nigeria’s determination and resilience, noting that the players refused to be discouraged by their earlier setback.

“Despite their good run during the tournament, the Eagles lost the semi-final match to Morocco during the penalty shootout last Wednesday, and our people’s hopes of winning the championship were dashed,” Tinubu said.

“However, our players remained undaunted, and exhibiting the resilience of the Nigerian spirit, their efforts have now paid off.”

He added that Nigerians would take pride in the team as they receive their bronze medals on Sunday in Rabat.
