King Mohammed VI of Morocco has congratulated the Moroccan national football team on reaching the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In a message to the players, coaching crew, technical, medical and administrative staff, as well as officials of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the monarch praised what he described as an honourable continental achievement.
He said the team’s campaign showed that perseverance, discipline and collective spirit are key to success, adding that their performance reflected the potential of Moroccan and African youth when they trust their abilities.
The King also noted that the squad’s determination showcased the value of Morocco’s long-term strategy of investing in human capital and upgrading infrastructure, which he said had proven its world-class readiness ahead of the 2030 World Cup.

The monarch further described Morocco’s hosting of the tournament as both a sporting success and a message of hope to Africa, saying it demonstrated that African talent can excel and innovate across sectors. He further commended Moroccan supporters for their passionate backing of the team throughout the competition.
Morocco opened their campaign with a win over Comoros, drew 1-1 with Mali and defeated Zambia 3-0 in the group stage. They edged Tanzania 1-0 in the round of 16, beat Cameroon 2-0 in the quarter-finals and eliminated Nigeria 4-2 on penalties in the semi-final.
The Atlas Lions were beaten 1-0 by Senegal after extra time in Sunday’s final, missing out on a second AFCON title since their 1976 triumph.
