Elena Rybakina defeated world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 at Rod Laver Arena to capture her second Grand Slam title, finishing in 2 hours and 18 minutes.

The Kazakh fifth seed, who was born in Moscow, fought through nerves to seal the victory with her sixth ace in the final. This win adds Melbourne to her 2022 Wimbledon title.

Rybakina displayed remarkable composure, especially when facing the pressure of serving for the match in the third and deciding sets.

She broke Sabalenka at 4-3 in the final set to take a 4-3 lead, then held serve to inch closer to the title, while Sabalenka, despite a late rally, couldn’t overturn the deficit.

Sabalenka had tears at the end, reflecting both disappointment and pride after reaching her fourth Australian Open final in a row.

Rybakina’s path to the title included notable wins over Iga Swiatek in the quarter-finals and Jessica Pegula in the semifinals.

Since switching to the Kazakh flag in 2018 for financial reasons, she has emerged as one of the sport’s most consistent performers, culminating in this career-defining victory in Melbourne.
