The Commissioner for the Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, ordered the closure of the Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road on the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway.
Wahab, in a statement on Sunday, said the closure was due to repeated environmental offences, including illegal dumping of waste on the highway median and unauthorised street trading.
“Lagos State government, this morning, sealed Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental infractions; indiscriminate refuse disposal on the median/highway and illegal street trading,” Wahab wrote on X.Â
The Lagos State Government has repeatedly reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on indiscriminate waste disposal and markets that breach environmental regulations.
Authorities have consistently warned residents, communities, market leaders and private businesses to comply with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017, particularly the ban on dumping refuse on roads, medians and highways.

Markets previously sealed for environmental offences include Erukan Market in Mile 12; Oja Oba Market, Ketu; Owoseni Tundas Market; Oba Ogunjobi Market, Mile 12; shops at the Mile 12 BRT Terminal and Mile 12 Bus Stop; Ketu Terminal Market plazas; Ifesowapo Shop Owners Market, Mile 12; Demurin Street Plaza shops, Ketu; premises at 6 Demurin Road, Ketu; Ifelodun Market, Ketu; Ibadan Unit 1 Park between Babajide Sanwo-Olu Market and Ikosi Fruit Market; Ketu Tipper Garage; Itedo Market, Lekki; Sabo Market, Yaba; Gorodom and Alagbafo markets on Lagos Island; Oko Oba Abattoir, Agege; and Ebute-Ero Market Block N.
