Valentine’s Day: Obi Urges Nigerians to Show Love Through Action

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on Nigerians to mark Valentine’s Day by showing love through practical actions that contribute to the nation’s progress.

In a message titled “Nigeria Needs Our Love in Action” on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Saturday, Obi described love as a commitment to honesty, discipline, and the common good.

He urged citizens, especially the youth, to renew their dedication to one another and to Nigeria, emphasising that a country, like a living being, thrives when nurtured with care and responsibility.

“Like a living being, a country flourishes when nurtured with care and dedication. Loving Nigeria means promoting fair elections, rejecting vices like corruption, greed, division, and mediocrity, and supporting only those with capacity, commitment, and character.”

He added that citizens should support leaders who demonstrate capacity, integrity, and dedication to public service.

On patriotism, he stated that it also means pointing out societal flaws, proposing solutions, and upholding values such as justice, competence, and transparency.

He stressed that integrity restores opportunities that corruption destroys and unity fosters progress, while division creates conflict.

Beyond politics, Obi encouraged Nigerians to extend their love to families and communities, arguing that translating care into action can strengthen society.

He concluded by wishing the country a happy Valentine’s Day and calling for citizens to embrace “love that strengthens families, communities, and our nation.”
