Police authorities in Kaduna State have rescued 75 people abducted by bandits in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.
The victims, including men, women and children, were travelling in commercial buses when they were attacked at Folwaya Village, near Birnin Gwari, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The Kaduna State Police Command said the victims were taken into a forest and hidden inside a cave in a mountainous area.
The command’s spokesman, Mansir Hassan, said the rescue followed information from the Birnin Gwari branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
He said the attackers, who were armed with AK-47 rifles and other weapons, fled after police operatives arrived at the location.

“Following the report, a team of police operatives from the Birnin Gwari Area Command was immediately deployed to the location,” Hassan said.
According to him, the bandits abandoned the victims after sighting the heavily armed security team, allowing all 75 people to be rescued unharmed.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the NURTW for providing timely information that helped the operation.
He also praised the Birnin Gwari Area Commander and his team for their quick response.
Muhammad urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
He also warned residents against taking the law into their own hands, saying such actions could cost innocent lives.
