Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, has travelled to Geneva for a fresh round of nuclear negotiations with the United States, as diplomatic efforts between both sides resume.

According to Iran’s foreign ministry, Araghchi departed Tehran late Sunday, leading a diplomatic and technical team for the second phase of the talks, alongside a series of high-level consultations.

The ministry said the discussions with the US would take place on Tuesday, 17 February 2026 and would again be held indirectly, with Oman facilitating the process.

During his stay in Geneva, Araghchi is also expected to meet with Swiss and Omani officials, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, and other international representatives.

Iran and the US restarted negotiations in Muscat on February 6, months after earlier efforts broke down following Israel’s bombing campaign against Iran last June, which escalated into a 12-day conflict.

The renewed talks come despite heightened tensions, with Washington previously warning of possible military action and deploying an aircraft carrier group to the region after Iran’s crackdown on anti-government protests last month.

Araghchi had led Iran’s delegation during the earlier indirect meeting in Muscat, where discussions were held with US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and senior US officials.

Switzerland, which has long represented US interests in Iran since diplomatic ties were severed after the 1980 hostage crisis, continues to play a significant intermediary role in facilitating contacts between the two countries.
