The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called upon the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately release the outstanding results for the Kuje Area Council chairmanship election.
In a statement issued Sunday, February 22, PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong expressed deep concern over the halted collation process in the Kuje Central and Kabi wards.
The party warned that the delay is fuelling public anxiety and alleged that their current marginal lead in the council is under threat of being manipulated by security forces.
INEC has attributed the pause in announcements to logistical complications rather than political interference.
Abubakar Dambo, the Supervising Resident Electoral Commissioner, explained that the holdup stemmed from an error involving collation officers.
He noted that while results for eight of the 10 wards have been successfully declared, the final two are still being processed.
Dambo maintained that the commission is working to resolve these technical issues to finalise the election tally.
Despite the lack of an official declaration for Kuje, the political atmosphere has grown increasingly competitive.
All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda has already claimed victory in Kuje as part of a broader celebration of his party’s grassroots strength across the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, and Rivers States.
Official reports currently show the APC has secured Abaji, Kwali, Bwari, and the Abuja Municipal Area Council, while the PDP has confirmed a win in the Gwagwalada Area Council.
While President Bola Tinubu has commended the peaceful conduct of the February 21 polls, the opposition remains sceptical.
Citing low voter turnout and alleged irregularities, the PDP has already inaugurated a specialised legal team to prepare election petitions.
As the wait for the final Kuje results continues, the PDP insists that the figures must mirror the votes already posted on the IREV portal to ensure the transparency and validity of the democratic process.
