A deadly Russian drone strike targeted industrial facilities in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia early Monday, claiming the life of a 33-year-old man and leaving a 45-year-old man wounded.

Regional military chief Ivan Fedorov confirmed the casualties as emergency teams worked to assess the structural damage at the site.

The attack marks a grim start to the week as Ukraine prepares to mark the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion this Tuesday.

The violence extended to the north, where the Kholodnogirsky district of Kharkiv came under intense missile fire.

While Mayor Igor Terekhov reported no immediate casualties from the district, the strike added to the mounting pressure on Ukraine’s major industrial hubs, which have become frequent targets of Moscow’s intensified aerial campaign.

These latest assaults follow a massive coordinated barrage on Sunday that saw nearly 300 drones and 50 missiles launched at critical infrastructure across the country.

Sunday’s attacks were particularly devastating in the Kyiv region, where falling debris and direct hits on residential areas killed one man and wounded at least 15 others, including four children.

Beyond the human cost, the weekend strikes severely crippled energy grids and railway logistics, leading to emergency power restrictions in regions like Odesa and Poltava.

Ukrainian officials noted that this recent wave appears to deliberately target the nation’s resilience just as global leaders prepare to commemorate the anniversary of the conflict.

As the Tuesday anniversary approaches, the scale of destruction continues to grow. From the industrial outskirts of Zaporizhzhia to the suburbs of the capital, emergency services remain on high alert.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has characterised the recent intensification as a “cynical” attempt to break the country’s spirit, while regional leaders continue to call for increased international support to bolster air defences against the relentless rain of drones and missiles.
