Plateau State police confirmed that five people were killed Thursday night in an attack on a residential area in Miango, Bassa Local Government Area.

Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah called the incident tragic and said security operatives are pursuing the perpetrators.

“Our men responded swiftly to the distress call and have since been deployed to the area. We are currently on the trail of the attackers and will not relent until they are arrested and brought to justice,” Ewah said.

He urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, calling for cooperation with security agencies.

“We appeal to members of the public to be vigilant at all times and promptly report any suspicious movement or activity to the police or other security agencies,” he added.

The victims, all members of the same family, were identified as Nancy Monday, Nuhu Isaiah, Henry Dah, Zongo Sunday, and Tarma Monday, according to the Irigwe Development Association (IDA).

They were attacked near the ECWA Church in Tudun Wada at about 9:30 p.m.

The association noted that the attack comes just four days after Abbas Musa, also an Irigwe native, was shot dead inside his residence on February 23.

IDA’s National Publicity Secretary, Sam Jugo, expressed concern over persistent attacks on Irigwe communities and called on residents to remain law-abiding despite the killings.

“Angry natives have continued to question why perpetrators of these heinous acts are never caught by security agents domiciled in the vicinity,” the statement said.

“The leadership of IDA appeals to natives to resist the drive to take laws into their hands by remaining law-abiding in the midst of unprovoked assaults on our people and land,” it added.
