A High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu gave the judgment on Thursday, ordering Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma to stop presenting himself as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

Egwuatu added that Uzodinma did not win the APC senatorial primary held on May 18 and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court held that former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha secured the most votes in the primary. It ruled that Okorocha should have been nominated as the party’s candidate.

Justice Egwuatu said the evidence presented before the court showed that Uzodinma was not the valid winner of the primary election.

The dispute followed conflicting claims over the outcome of the party’s primary, with INEC’s official results recognising Uzodimma as the winner with 230,464 votes, against Okorocha’s 1,098 votes.

Okorocha challenged the outcome in suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1854/2026, questioning INEC’s recognition of Uzodimma and raising issues concerning the governor’s eligibility to contest the senatorial election while in office.
