Captain Lucas Da Cunha’s stunning second-half strike helped Como secure a 2-1 victory at Cagliari on Saturday, propelling them level on points with fourth-placed Roma in Serie A, marking their third consecutive league win to keep the pressure on Roma, who will face Genoa on Sunday in the battle for Champions League qualification.
Como, who have never participated in European competitions, will host Roma next weekend, with both teams now tied for the coveted Champions League spot. Juventus, who are sixth, trail by four points as they prepare to take on Pisa later on Saturday.
Cesc Fabregas, Como’s manager, praised his team’s resilience after a tiring run of fixtures. Speaking to DAZN, he said, “I liked the way the lads reacted today. This performance proves what the team is made of. They have a great mentality that is growing game by game.”

Despite a physically exhausting period, with midweek draws against Serie A leaders Inter Milan in the Italian Cup semi-final, Fabregas expressed immense satisfaction with the victory.
“This is the win I am most satisfied with this season. It is genuinely a major step forward for the team,” he added.
Como took the lead early on, with Martin Baturina turning in Da Cunha’s mishit shot. Cagliari equalised through Sebastiano Esposito in the 56th minute, but Da Cunha sealed the win in the 76th minute, firing a brilliant long-range strike into the top corner.
Meanwhile, Atalanta’s European ambitions were dealt a blow despite a late comeback, as the club drew 2-2 at home against Udinese. They are now five points adrift of both Roma and Como, as their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League look increasingly slim.
