Saudi Arabian defence forces successfully intercepted seven ballistic missiles and a swarm of drones on Wednesday as Iran intensified its regional offensive.
The Saudi Ministry of Defence confirmed that six missiles targeting the Prince Sultan Air Base in Al Kharj were destroyed, while a seventh was neutralised over the country’s eastern region.

This follows a previous March 1 strike on the same air base that resulted in the death of a U.S. service member.
In addition to the missile threat, the Kingdom’s military downed seven drones, five of which were intercepted east of Al Kharj province.

These coordinated attacks are part of a broader escalation by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, who claimed to have launched salvos against Israeli cities and various U.S. interests.
Iranian state media also reported strikes targeting the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and several facilities in Iraqi Kurdistan.
The current hostilities are part of an all-out regional war that began on February 28, 2026, following joint US-Israeli strikes that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader.
Since then, Iran has launched hundreds of drones and missiles at U.S. allies and military installations across the Gulf.
Bahrain has been particularly hard hit, reporting civilian casualties from repeated aerial bombardments, while Saudi Arabia has relied heavily on its multi-layered missile defence systems to protect critical infrastructure and foreign military personnel.
