Several explosions have been heard in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, after authorities issued a warning over an incoming ballistic missile attack.
According to an AFP reporter, people heard explosions early Sunday.
Kyiv’s military administration issued an air raid alert at about 2:00 am local time, urging residents to seek shelter.
“Air raid alert in Kyiv due to the ballistic missile threat,” the administration said on Telegram.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko later reported “explosions in the capital”, saying the city was “under ballistic missile attack”.
A fire was subsequently reported at a non-residential building in Kyiv’s Obolonsky district, according to Klitschko and local authorities.
No casualties were immediately reported.
The explosions came as Russia continues its long-range missile attacks against Ukraine, while Ukrainian forces have stepped up drone strikes against targets deep inside Russia.
Meanwhile, Russian forces have reported intercepting another wave of drones approaching Moscow.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian forces had shot down about 28 drones “flying towards Moscow”.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian oil refineries and military infrastructure with drones, while Moscow continues its offensive in eastern Ukraine and missile strikes on Ukrainian cities.
Ukrainian officials have also accused Russia of using North Korean ballistic missiles in some of its attacks.
