Smoke was seen rising near the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City on Friday following a series of loud explosions and Iranian missile warnings.
Footage captured by local media showed a crater on a road near the historic Zion Gate.
The impact site is located only a few hundred metres from some of the world’s most sensitive religious landmarks, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the Western Wall, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
While initial fears suggested a direct strike, Israeli police on the scene indicated that the damage likely resulted from falling debris following a missile interception.
Witnesses reported seeing an object plummeting from the sky before a large blast sent a plume of white smoke into the air.

Authorities confirmed they are currently working to clear explosive fragments from the area, and one individual was treated for minor injuries sustained during the incident.
Israel’s foreign ministry reacted strongly to the event, accusing the Iranian government of a direct assault on sites sacred to three major world religions.

Describing the regime’s actions as “madness,” officials noted the timing of the strike coincided with the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
The incident has intensified international concerns over the safety of cultural and religious heritage sites as the regional conflict continues to escalate.
