Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a direct appeal to U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday, urging him to intervene and halt the escalating war in the Middle East.
Speaking at the opening of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES) 2026 in Cairo, Sisi stood alongside Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and emphasised that the United States holds the unique influence necessary to de-escalate the conflict as it enters its second month.
The president’s plea was underscored by a stark warning regarding the global economy.
Sisi highlighted that continued instability in the Gulf—specifically the closure of the Strait of Hormuz—could push global oil prices beyond $200 per barrel.

He noted that such a surge is “not an exaggeration” and would cause devastating inflationary pressure, particularly on the economies of developing nations.
While calling for peace, Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s strategic alignment with Gulf partners who have faced drone and missile strikes during the recent hostilities.
The appeal reflects a growing regional urgency for a diplomatic breakthrough, as Cairo and Nicosia also signed a new framework agreement on natural gas to bolster energy security in the face of ongoing geopolitical disruptions.
