Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday visited Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to sympathise with the military and the state government following a recent attack on troops in Benisheikh.
The assault claimed the lives of several soldiers, including Brigadier General Oseni Braimah.
Shettima was received by the Theatre Commander, Abdulsalam Abubakar, alongside other senior officials.
Delivering President Bola Tinubu’s message, the vice president said the government shares in the grief of the armed forces and the families of the fallen personnel, noting that the nation stands in solidarity with them over the loss.

“On behalf of the President I wish to convey our deep heartfelt condolences to the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces and the other Allied forces for the lives lost. Our hearts bleed, we grief with the families, the nation griefs with the families and the supreme sacrifices by our gallant officers and men”
He also expressed confidence that security challenges would eventually be overcome, stressing that justice and stability would prevail.
“No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of the dawn. I certainly in the fullness of time, truth, justice and light succeed over darkness and madness”, he said.
Shettima reaffirmed the Nigerian government’s commitment to supporting the armed forces, affected families, and communities impacted by insecurity in Borno and other parts of the country.
