Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed support for the United States’ decision to impose a naval blockade on Iran, stating that Israel is closely aligned with Washington on the move.

Speaking during a cabinet meeting on Monday, Netanyahu said the US action followed what he described as Iran’s failure to meet key conditions during recent negotiations. He indicated that President Donald Trump opted for the blockade after concluding that Tehran had not adhered to agreed terms, adding that Israel remains in constant coordination with the US government.

“Iran violated the rules (of the peace talks in Pakistan), President Trump decided to impose a naval blockade.

According to him, briefings from US Vice President JD Vance after talks in Islamabad suggested that the negotiations collapsed due to Iran’s actions, which Washington found unacceptable. He noted that part of the understanding had been a ceasefire and the immediate reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, conditions he said were not fulfilled.

“The breakdown came from the American side, which could not tolerate Iran’s blatant violation of the terms for entering negotiations.

“The agreement was that there would be a ceasefire, and that the Iranians would immediately open the strait. They did not do so. The Americans could not accept this.”

Netanyahu further explained that a central objective for the US is to eliminate Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile and prevent any future enrichment activities over the long term, a position he said Israel also considers critical.

The US military had earlier announced that the blockade would apply to all vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports along the key maritime route, following the breakdown of diplomatic efforts over the weekend.

The development marks a significant escalation in tensions in the region, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route.
