The Republic of Congo’s Prime Minister, Anatole Collinet Makosso, has presented his resignation and that of his Cabinet to President Denis Sassou Nguesso, the president’s office said in a statement Sunday.
The move came days after Nguesso was sworn in for a fifth term following his reelection in the March 15 polls. The country, also known as Congo-Brazzaville, is a Central African nation.
“In accordance with Article 83 of the Constitution of October 25, 2015, and following the presidential elections of March 12 and 15, 2026, and the inauguration of the President of the Republic, Head of State, on April 16, 2026, the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Mr. Anatole Collinet MAKOsso, submitted his resignation and that of his government to the President of the Republic today by letter No. 260105/PMCG-CAB dated Friday, April 17, 2026,” the statement read.
“The resignation was accepted by the President of the Republic, who expressed his gratitude to all the ministers for their work during the five years of collaboration, from 2021 to 2026, dedicated to the implementation of the ‘Together, Let’s Continue the March’ social project.”

Outgoing ministers will continue to manage current affairs until a new government team is formed, the statement said.
“In closing, the President of the Republic asked the members of the government to handle current affairs until the formation of the next government team.”
Makosso, appointed in 2021, “expressed all his gratitude to the Head of State for the trust he has enjoyed during the exercise of his tenure and indicated that he remains at the disposal of the President of the Republic.” according to the statement.
