ADC Denies Merger Talks With PRP

Nigeria’s opposition coalition, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has addressed rumours circulating that the party is in talks with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in anticipation of a court ruling.

The party categorically denied these reports, calling them false and misleading.

In a statement on Monday, the ADC leadership emphasised that there are no ongoing discussions with any political party at this time. The leadership also clarified that their focus remains on challenging the unlawful actions taken against the party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other agents tied to the ruling party.

The ADC strongly believes that upholding the rule of law and protecting Nigeria’s multiparty democracy are essential, and this fight will continue through the legal process.

While the party expressed openness to broadening its coalition to unite opposition elements for the greater good of the country, it also reaffirmed its commitment to its responsibilities.

The leadership made it clear that they would not abandon the ADC and are resolute in ensuring the survival of democratic institutions in Nigeria. The ADC further stressed that any suggestion of their departure from the party is purely speculative and should be dismissed.

Despite the ongoing challenges and the evident erosion of democratic practices, the ADC remains confident that Nigeria’s judiciary will not succumb to external pressures and will resist any attempt to undermine the nation’s democracy during this critical time.
