The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rescheduled key activities in its 2027 election timetable, moving its presidential primary from May 15-16 to May 23, 2026, and the governorship primary to May 21, 2026.

The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Duro Meseko, announced the changes on Thursday after the 186th National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, saying several parts of the earlier schedule had been adjusted, including screening and appeals processes for aspirants.

Meseko explained that the updated timetable aligns with the Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026, and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s election guidelines.

The revised primary schedule sets House of Representatives primaries for May 15, Senate for May 18, State House of Assembly for May 20, governorship for May 21, and presidential primaries for May 23.

He further disclosed that the NWC also approved a separate timetable for ward, local government, and state congresses in Zamfara State, beginning April 28, 2026, with subsequent screening, congresses, and appeals scheduled through early May.

On the party’s internal electoral process, Meseko said the APC had adopted both direct and consensus primaries as allowed under the Electoral Act 2026, stressing that aspirants would choose their preferred option.

He clarified that consensus arrangements would only stand where all parties agree, adding that otherwise the party would revert to direct primaries.

Meseko also dismissed reports suggesting restrictions on nomination forms, stating that all interested aspirants are eligible to purchase forms.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly will hold on February 6, 2027.
