Tesla chief executive Elon Musk says the company has started production of its highly anticipated autonomous robotaxi, the Cybercab.
Musk announced on Friday in a post on X, sharing a promotional video that appeared to show the driverless vehicle leaving the production line before driving onto public roads.

He also posted another short clip showing several gold-coloured Cybercabs moving together in formation.
The update comes in the same week Tesla reported first-quarter profits of $477 million, exceeding market expectations.

Tesla had earlier said it remained on schedule to begin volume production of both the Cybercab and the Tesla Semi later this year.
The Cybercab, unveiled in late 2024, is designed as a fully self-driving taxi without a steering wheel or pedals. At the time of its launch, Musk said the vehicle was expected to become commercially available in 2027.
The company also began offering limited robotaxi services to selected early-access users in Austin, Texas, last June.
In February, Tesla released an image showing employees gathered around a Cybercab at its Giga Texas facility, identifying it as the first unit produced on the assembly line.
