Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has said President Bola Tinubu approved his resignation from the Federal Executive Council, dismissing claims that he stepped down against the President’s wishes.
In a statement made available to Daily Post through his Media Aide, Femi Awogboro, Adelabu said reports suggesting he acted without presidential consent were false.
The statement read that the former minister obtained Tinubu’s full approval and blessing before resigning, urging those spreading contrary claims to stop.
“Adelabu actually obtained the full approval and blessing of President Tinubu before taking the decision to resign. Those spreading false speculations should desist; such claims are baseless.”

Adelabu also said criticism surrounding his exit was unfounded, adding that detractors were unsettled by the large reception he received on his return to Ibadan last Thursday.
His reaction followed reports that he resigned despite efforts by the President to persuade him to remain in office, with sources linking his departure to plans to contest the Oyo State governorship election.
Adelabu had formally submitted his resignation in a letter dated April 22, 2026, addressed to the President through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
His exit is also connected to a presidential directive requiring political appointees seeking elective offices in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 31, 2026.
The directive, issued on March 17 by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was said to be in line with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries.
