World number one Jannik Sinner delivered a dominant performance to defeat Alexander Zverev 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday, clinching his first Madrid Open title in emphatic fashion.
The Italian extended his remarkable winning streak to 23 matches, underlining his current supremacy on the ATP Tour.
Sinner’s victory marks a record fifth consecutive Masters 1000 title, a feat that places him in rare company. Only legends such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have previously managed to secure four titles in a row at this level, making Sinner’s run even more significant.
From the outset, Sinner imposed himself on the match, breaking Zverev’s opening service game to establish early control. He quickly consolidated for a 3-0 lead, showcasing precision and consistency from the baseline. The Italian continued to dictate play, securing another break to surge ahead 5-0 before Zverev managed his first hold of the match.

Despite that brief resistance, Zverev had few answers to Sinner’s relentless serving and tactical variation. A well-executed drop shot, part of Sinner’s evolving game, left the German scrambling before the top seed closed out the first set with an ace.
In the second set, Sinner maintained his intensity, breaking in the third game to tighten his grip on the contest. Although Zverev, a two-time Madrid champion, showed improved resistance, he was unable to disrupt Sinner’s rhythm. A powerful forehand winner secured another break for a 5-2 lead, allowing Sinner to serve for the championship.
He sealed the victory with a flawless service game, completing what can only be described as a clinical campaign in Madrid.
With world number two Carlos Alcaraz sidelined by injury, Sinner appears to have no immediate challenger heading into the French Open, where he will arrive as the clear favourite.
