The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that the sale of nomination forms for its primaries is ongoing, rejecting criticism from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who had challenged the party’s factional leadership to open a bank account.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP said Wike’s threats would not affect its activities.
“The sale of forms is ongoing, and there is nothing Wike can do about it,” the party said.
During a media chat in Abuja earlier on Wednesday, Wike dared the factional leadership of the PDP to open an official party bank account.
“You cannot continue to deceive Nigerians. If they are sure they are the authentic leadership of the PDP, let them open an official PDP account and tell party members to pay nomination fees into it,” Wike said.
He specifically named Tanimu Turaki, a senior advocate of Nigeria who heads the factional caretaker committee.
“Let Turaki, as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, open an account for the PDP. Let them announce it publicly for members who want to contest elections. That day, you will see what will happen. He will lose his silk.”
Wike also said he would not tolerate a parallel PDP secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory.

PDP said Wike’s frustration stems from the party’s ongoing sale of forms and preparations for primaries and a national convention.
“We understand his frustration about the commencement of the sale of forms and activities to hold primaries and eventually a national convention where a credible Nigerian will emerge as the Presidential Candidate,” the party said.
“This will mean that he has failed in his promise to ‘hold down’ the party for his principal.”
The party described Wike’s threat against banks as “delusional.”
“His delusional boast of dealing with banks that will open accounts for us is delusional, as he is already aware that we are operating accounts of the party, which is why his group of friends are receiving money through private accounts,” it stated.
PDP dismissed Wike’s media chat as a “political swan song” and “the last kicks of a dying horse.”
The party said its statement was not a response but rather “a profuse apology to Nigerians for offering a platform to a person whose conduct, speeches, and reasoning have become not just a national but an international disgrace.”
PDP advised those defamed by Wike to seek legal redress, adding that no one should be above the law.
The party also expressed sympathy for Wike, saying he will never become National Leader of the PDP “as no such office exists in our constitution.”

Today, Nigerians were treated to an unsolicited overdosage of political rascality, moral emptiness, crass opportunism, and post-loss trauma by Minister Nyesom Wike.
