West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen has criticised what he described as inconsistent officiating in the Premier League after VAR ruled out his side’s late equaliser against Arsenal in a crucial relegation battle.
The controversy unfolded during Sunday’s clash at the London Stadium, where West Ham believed they had rescued a valuable point against the league leaders in stoppage time.
Callum Wilson bundled the ball into the net after Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya failed to hold onto a corner delivery. However, referee Chris Kavanagh disallowed the goal following a lengthy VAR review, ruling that defender Pablo had fouled Raya in the build-up.
The decision proved decisive as Leandro Trossard’s 82nd-minute strike handed Arsenal a 1-0 victory. The result moved Arsenal five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, while West Ham remained trapped in the relegation zone with only two matches left in the season.
Speaking after the match, Hermansen questioned why similar physical confrontations during corners had routinely gone unpunished throughout the campaign.

“If you ask any goalkeeper in the league, if he’s been illegally blocked, pulled, pushed on corners this season I think you will not find anyone who has not experienced this,” Hermansen said.
The Danish goalkeeper admitted Raya had every right to appeal for a foul, but argued that consistency has been lacking across the league.
“You can give the foul on the goalkeeper, definitely,” he said. “But with what has been given during this season of goals with illegal blocks and illegal pulls and pushing and stuff on goalkeepers, I don’t understand why that’s been given.”
Hermansen also revealed he spoke with Raya after the game, insisting both goalkeepers shared similar frustrations over how incidents at set-pieces have been interpreted this season.
West Ham are reportedly preparing to raise their concerns with the Professional Game Match Officials Limited amid mounting pressure over VAR consistency in the Premier League.
