Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared his ambition to contest in the 2027 Presidential Election.
Makinde made the declaration during a joint mega rally of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) on Thursday.
The Oyo State Governor said he will contest under the alliance of the PDP and the Allied People’s Movement (APM).
While declaring his bid, the Oyo State Governor said the alliance between the two parties will allow them to field candidates for the upcoming election.
“It is time to work in unity to give our dear nation the hard research that it needs. Today, history is being made. I pronounce today the birth of the Research Nigeria Movement,” said Makinde.

“So today in Ibadan, the first grand alliance is formed. The alliance of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied People’s Movement. This handshake will allow us to field candidates at all levels.
“We will field candidates from top to bottom. We will field candidates from the presidency to the state assembly and everything in between. Therefore, today, I, Oluseyi Abiodunmakinde, FNSE, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Republic of Nigeria.”
Makinde, who was elected governor on the PDP platform in 2019, will conclude his second term in office in 2027.
In April 2026, opposition political parties, including the PDP, agreed to field a sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election to unseat Nigerian President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Despite being a member of the opposition, the Oyo State Governor had drummed up support for Tinubu in the 2023 election, but he became a critic of the president in 2025 and said he would not support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
