The former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, was allegedly denied access to his doctor by officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Friday.

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the former governor’s son and lawmaker representing Kaduna North in the National Assembly, in a post shared on X on Friday night, alleged that officials of the ICPC demanded a written permission from the ICPC chairman to grant him access to his medical doctor.

“Our father, Mallam Nasir @elrufai, is still being held by the ICPC. Today, 15 May 2026, we witnessed two distinct yet equally serious attacks on his basic rights. First, his personal Doctor visited the ICPC at about 3pm to discuss the results of medical tests recently conducted on our father,” said Mohammed.

“Officials at the agency blocked the doctor from seeing him, claiming that written permission from the ICPC Chairman was required. This directly flouts a clear court order granting Mallam Nasir El‑Rufai unrestricted access to his doctors.”

The Kaduna North lawmaker added that ICPC turned the former governor’s wife away when she visited him in detention with his evening meal, further alleging that ICPC officials told her that food deliveries were not permissible after 6:30 pm.

“Second, his wife, Aunty Aichatou, brought his evening meal at around 7 pm as she normally does. ICPC personnel turned her away, saying they had orders not to permit food deliveries after 6:30 pm. This arbitrary rule is no less offensive than blocking his right to medical care,” Mohamed added.

According to Mohammed, these actions violate the rule of law and the former governor’s human rights.

“No lawful detention justifies denying medical access or refusing basic family care based on an arbitrary curfew fixed by the ICPC. Shame on them as an institution,” he added.

“We demand that all his constitutional rights be fully respected. We will no longer accept this pattern of intimidation dressed up as protocol. The ICPC must abide by the very laws it claims to enforce.”

El-Rufai was taken into custody by the ICPC in February 2026 as part of ongoing corruption investigations.

He initially appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for questioning over alleged financial improprieties linked to his time as governor.

After spending time in EFCC custody and being granted administrative bail, he was reportedly taken into fresh custody by ICPC operatives immediately afterwards.

Court proceedings later followed, with hearings and remand orders extending his detention period while legal processes continue.
