The Edo State Police Command has rescued all 13 passengers who were abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Benin-Lagos Expressway during a security operation involving aerial surveillance, drones, and bush-combing efforts.

Police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said in a statement on Saturday in Benin City that the victims were kidnapped on May 9 at Ogua Community when armed men attacked a commercial bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors, travelling from Akwa Ibom to Lagos.

Ikoedem said one female passenger sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.

According to her, police officers immediately launched a rescue operation, initially freeing five passengers, including two adults and three children.

Edo ASP added that two more victims were rescued on May 10 after operatives engaged the kidnappers in a gun duel using intelligence and drone support. Ikoedem confirmed that the remaining six abducted passengers have now been safely rescued.

Also, the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, praised the officers for their bravery and assured that efforts are ongoing to track down the kidnappers.
