Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has recorded a landslide victory in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary in Sokoto State.
Atiku polled 69,431 votes to defeat other contenders by a wide margin during the primary election held on Monday.
The results were announced at the ADC State Secretariat in Sokoto by the Returning Officer, Professor Aminu Abubakar Illela, in the presence of party leaders, delegates and supporters.
According to the results, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi scored 292 votes, while businessman and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen received 319 votes.

“With the powers conferred on me as the Returning Officer for this election, I hereby declare Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as the winner of the Sokoto State ADC presidential primary election, having scored the highest number of valid votes cast,” Illela announced.
The declaration ignited celebrations among party supporters at the secretariat, with many describing Atiku as a strong opposition figure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party stakeholders said the result showed confidence in Atiku’s leadership experience and ability to tackle Nigeria’s economic and security challenges.
