Bolaji Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has dismissed allegations of vote rigging made by Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a candidate contesting the party’s presidential primaries.
Hayatu-Deen, in a post shared on X on Tuesday, alleged that the party’s primary election was marred by “widespread rigging”.
The party’s spokesperson, however, dismissed Hayatu-Deen’s claims in an interview with Channels TV on Tuesday, saying there is no evidence to support them.
“Results from 11 states and 11 states’ results have been received. We are still awaiting some other results. We are starting anytime from now. We’re going to start, as you said. It will probably run for several hours, but the major party leaders and major dignitaries are arriving, so we are going to start any moment from now,” said Abdullahi.
“We don’t have any evidence now to be able to support his position or to deny his position because, as I said, we’ve not collated the results. We’ve not noticed any pattern in the results. We’ve not seen enough to establish a pattern or say this represents evidence in the direction he is speaking, but we will. I mean, there are processes for addressing such complaints.”
The ADC spokesperson added that the party has processes to address complaints of irregularities within the party and in electoral processes.
“We don’t know enough to be able to say yes or no to the allegations.”
