Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, a banker and member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) contesting the party’s presidential primaries, has alleged rigging in the ongoing primaries.
The ADC’s presidential primaries are currently ongoing across Nigeria. Voting is taking place simultaneously in thousands of wards nationwide as party members choose the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
Former transport minister Rotimi Amaechi and former vice president Atiku Abubakar are also contesting in the ADC primaries.
Although the party has yet to announce the winner of the primaries, early voting figures released by the ADC reveal that Atiku has taken an early lead in the party’s presidential primaries, securing victories in five states.
Hayatu-Deen, in a post shared on X on Tuesday, said he won’t attend the party’s result announcement.

I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today. I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps.

Hayatu-Deen, a former presidential candidate, declared his presidential bid in early May. He said the decision was driven by what he described as the urgent need for national renewal.
“I am running because Nigeria deserves better. And because the ADC is the only vehicle through which we can deliver a safer and prosperous Nigeria,” he said.
