Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State have intercepted a truck carrying 36 tonnes of suspected lithium along the Jebba Expressway in the Okolowo area of Ilorin.
The State Commandant, Abbas Nda-Mohammed, briefed journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday, confirming that operatives made the interception at about 10pm on Friday.
He said officers stopped a truck with registration number DKA 990 XJ, registered in Kaduna State, which was transporting about 36 tonnes of suspected lithium ore.

Preliminary investigations showed that the suspects failed to present valid mining licences, waybills, or any legal documents authorising the transport and possession of the mineral.
He added that investigators are still working to determine the source and ownership of the mineral as well as those involved in the operation.
Nda-Mohammed further disclosed that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
He said operatives from the Mines and Steel Unit, working with the command’s Special Patrol Team, carried out an intelligence-led operation that led to their arrest.
The Commandant stated that the suspects will face prosecution after investigations are concluded.
He reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to protecting national assets and said the command will intensify efforts against illegal mining and related criminal activities across Kwara State.
