Teachers in Lagos State have staged a protest demanding the release of teachers and pupils who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State two weeks ago.
The teachers marched from the Balogun area of Ikeja in Lagos towards the state secretariat in Alausa on Tuesday.
They blocked a section of the road leading to the secretariat while chanting solidarity songs. The teachers carried placards with inscriptions such as “Bring back our colleagues” and “Teachers are leaders, treat them well,” among others.
Members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers reportedly converged on the union secretariat, from where they were expected to proceed to other parts of the state for the demonstration.

One of the teachers expressed concern over the abduction and insecurity in the country.
“We are here for solidarity. Everyone is aware that our people were kidnapped on May 15. We have tried our best. The government and everybody has tried their best, and as colleagues, we have to sympathise and let people know that we are feeling the pain,” the teacher said.
The protest comes a day after their colleagues in Oyo State held a similar rally.
Terrorists stormed Oriire on May 15, 2026, and abducted over 30 students between the ages of 2 and 17, as well as seven teachers from three schools in the community.
During the attack, gunmen killed an assistant headmaster and a motorcyclist.
Days after the incident, Michael Oyedokun, one of the abducted teachers, was beheaded by the kidnappers, triggering nationwide outrage.
