At least four people have died after a plane crashed near an airfield on Croatia’s northern Adriatic coast, authorities confirmed on Thursday.
The crash occurred at Campanoz, near the town of Medulin on Croatia’s Istria Peninsula. Emergency responders have launched a search operation for two other people believed to be missing. In a statement, police said four people were confirmed dead following the crash.
The Croatian National Firefighting Association also confirmed the incident, saying the aircraft went down near the Medulin sports airfield. Firefighters, police officers and emergency medical teams were deployed to the scene shortly after the crash.

Local media reports indicated that rescue teams were searching for two additional occupants, while images from the crash site showed the wreckage scattered across the area.
According to Croatia’s state-run HRT broadcaster, the aircraft was registered in Germany and had departed from Austria before heading to Medulin. Photographs from the scene showed a German flag on the tail section of the wrecked aircraft.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims or the cause of the crash. Investigations are ongoing.
