United States President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to China and Russia on Friday against selling weapons to Iran, emphasising that any military aid would carry severe consequences for both powers.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared that transferring arms to Tehran would run counter to their strategic interests.
However, he expressed confidence that neither nation currently participates in such transfers.
The warning coincides with ongoing American intelligence investigations examining whether Moscow and Beijing provide targeting data to Iranian forces following a series of strikes on United States military bases.
Despite these security concerns, Trump highlighted direct assurances from top foreign leaders, noting Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged during their May meeting in Beijing that China would not supply arms to Iran under any circumstances—a promise Trump stated he accepts.
Trump similarly cited explicit assurances from Russian President Vladimir Putin, explaining that Moscow respects Washington’s policy of supplying arms to NATO allies rather than directly to Ukraine.
While analysts frequently note Trump’s deferential stance toward major global leaders compared to traditional Western allies, the American leader maintained that preserving respectful diplomatic channels with Beijing and Moscow remains essential for regional stability.
