The United States military says it intercepted and destroyed two Iranian attack drones that were allegedly threatening maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the latest escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.
In a statement posted on X(formerly Twitter) late Saturday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces operating in the Middle East shot down the drones after determining they posed a threat to international shipping in the strategic waterway.

CENTCOM added that US forces remained on high alert and prepared to respond to further actions by Iran.

“Earlier today, US forces in the Middle East shot down two Iranian one-way attack drones that threatened international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz,” US Central Command said.
“American forces remain postured and ready to continue defending against Iranian aggression.”
The announcement came a day after the US military said it had downed four Iranian attack drones heading toward the Strait of Hormuz and carried out strikes on Iranian coastal surveillance radar installations.
The latest exchange follows a series of military confrontations between the two sides, including Iranian missile attacks on US allies Bahrain and Kuwait on Saturday.
The renewed hostilities come despite ongoing indirect talks between Washington and Tehran aimed at finding a path to end the conflict.
