Members of the Prayer Centre Church in Akure, Ondo State, staged a peaceful protest on Sunday against the growing cases of killings, kidnappings and abductions across Nigeria, carrying placards declaring “Stop Terrorism, Enough!!!” and “Righteousness Exalts a Nation.”
The protesters, led by senior pastor Samson Oluwamodede, marched through parts of Akure, calling on the government and security agencies to take urgent action to address the country’s security challenges, according to a Facebook post documenting the demonstration.
The demonstrators expressed concern over the increasing number of abductions and violent attacks reported across the country, stating that many Nigerians now live in fear.

The protest comes amid rising public anger over insecurity in various parts of Nigeria, where incidents of kidnapping, attacks on communities and abductions have continued to prompt outrage.
On May 15, 2026, armed men attacked three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting approximately 39 pupils and seven teachers – a total of 46 victims. One teacher has died in captivity, and the victims have spent more than three weeks in captivity.
On June 3, gunmen kidnapped Olaide Adegoke, the sister of former Minister of Power Bayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan. Police rescued them on Saturday night in an operation that reportedly left two suspected kidnappers dead.
In Katsina State, retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, former Director of Defence Information, and his wife remain in captivity after gunmen abducted them along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road. Abductors released a video on Saturday showing the couple and listing demands for their release.
The Akure church protest follows similar demonstrations in Lagos, Ibadan and other parts of the country. Members of the Take-It-Back Movement staged a protest in Ikeja, Lagos, on June 3, demanding the immediate release of the Oyo State abductees.
The Nigeria Union of Teachers in Oyo State has also embarked on an indefinite strike to protest the abduction of their colleagues and students.
