United States President Donald Trump has made a tongue-in-cheek remark about being the ‘boss’ at the ongoing G7 Summit in France on Wednesday.

“I’m the boss,” Trump said as he walked into the morning session on the final day of the three-day G7 summit, with other leaders already seated.

The remark drew laughter from other leaders, while French President Emmanuel Macron, the host of the summit, responded in good humour, asking, “How are you?”

“Good, thank you,” Trump replied as he took his seat.

Trump’s presence has dominated the summit in the spa town of Evian on Lake Geneva since it began on Monday.

French officials are expected to be satisfied that the US president stayed for the entire event and signed the G7 communiqué, unlike the previous summit in Canada where he left early.

In an unusual gesture, Macron invited Trump to dinner at the Palace of Versailles outside Paris after the summit concludes on Wednesday afternoon.

Macron, under pressure to avoid appearing overly deferential to Trump, has said the evening at Versailles will not be a “gala” dinner.
