United States (US) President Donald Trump has threatened to launch military strikes against Iran if it fails to comply with its obligations under a proposed peace agreement.
Trump’s remark comes two days before US and Iranian officials are expected to sign an accord to end the war that began on February 28, 2026.
“No, it’s not final. It’s a memorandum of understanding,” Trump said at the G7 Summit, referring to the agreement scheduled to be signed in Switzerland on Friday.
“If I don’t like it, we will go back to shooting at them,” he added while appearing alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
“If they don’t behave, we’ll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head.”
“Because they misbehaved for 47 years,” Trump said, referring to Iran’s Islamic Republic, which was established following the 1979 Islamic Revolution that overthrew the US-backed Shah.
The United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran in February, triggering a conflict that escalated tensions across the Middle East and resulted in the deaths of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and several senior officials.
Talks on a comprehensive US-Iran settlement are expected to begin immediately after the signing of the accord in Switzerland on Friday and continue for 60 days to finalise the details of a lasting agreement.
