The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has revealed that it is investigating an alleged child abuse case involving an eight-year-old boy allegedly assaulted by his mother in the Alakuko area of the state.

In a post shared on X on Friday, the agency said it was alerted to the incident on Tuesday and immediately activated its emergency response system.

“The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) was alerted to a distressing case of alleged physical abuse involving an 8-year-old male child in the Alakuko area of Lagos State on Tuesday, 16th June 2026. The Agency immediately activated its response protocol upon receipt of the report,” it said.

According to preliminary findings, the child sustained serious injuries after allegedly being attacked by his mother.

“The alleged perpetrator, identified as the child’s biological mother, used a blade to inflict injury on the survivor’s body, claiming he stole some money from her. She was subsequently apprehended, while relevant authorities commenced necessary investigations and legal processes,” the agency added.

It said the suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and that legal proceedings were promptly initiated, with the case already heard before a Magistrate’s Court in Lagos State.

“Following the proceedings, the court directed that the survivor and his sibling be placed in protective care within an approved child protection facility.”

The agency added that the defendant was granted bail under strict conditions, while the case has been adjourned for further hearing later in the year.

DSVA commended the swift intervention of community members and security agencies in ensuring the child’s safety and facilitating due process.

Reaffirming its stance, the agency stressed the Lagos State Government’s zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of child abuse and its commitment to protecting survivors and ensuring accountability under the law.
