The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State on Saturday described the voting process as “useless” after only five people had cast their ballots in his polling unit more than 90 minutes after voting began.

Dr Wole Oluyede spoke to journalists after casting his vote at Osaguru Hall, unit 6, ward 3 in Ikere-Ekiti.

“The process is actually useless. People have been here for about one and a half hours, and only five people have voted in my polling unit. That’s what they do all the time,” Oluyede said.

“I am suspecting that there’s something wrong with the INEC process,” he added.

“They have called the RATech for the last 45 minutes, and he hasn’t been here. You cannot disenfranchise these people. It is sad for democracy in Nigeria.”

Oluyede also expressed concern over what he described as an excessive police presence at the polling unit of the deputy governorship candidate, while his own location had only journalists.

“Where the deputy governor votes, there’s an army of policemen there. I do feel it’s funny, because you are not there, and you are not reporting,” he told journalists.

He also alleged that police were harassing voters.

“I taped them. I have evidence of that. This is nonsense,” he said.

Despite the challenges, Oluyede expressed confidence in victory.

“I’m still very confident that my people are going to stay here peacefully, and we are still winning this election,” he said.
