The by-election in Kano State’s Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, which commenced on Saturday, has remained peaceful, with security agencies and electoral officials monitoring activities across polling units.

Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other security agencies were deployed across the constituency to ensure compliance with electoral guidelines and maintain order during the exercise.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, accompanied by the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abdu Zango, and members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), toured polling units in Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas to assess the conduct of the election.

“Our personnel have been strategically deployed across the constituency to ensure adequate security and maintain law and order throughout the electoral process.

“We are satisfied with the level of compliance observed so far and urge residents to continue conducting themselves peacefully as the process continues,” Bakori said.

Zango also commended the calm atmosphere, noting that the election had progressed without any major incident.

He said security agencies had fulfilled their responsibility of ensuring the safety of voters and election officials, adding that the process had remained smooth and orderly.

The INEC commissioner further disclosed that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS)  devices were functioning effectively, polling units opened on schedule, and voter turnout had been encouraging.

“Our BVAS machines are working very well, polling units opened at 8:30 a.m., and there is a significant turnout of voters. We are very happy with the development,” he stated.
