The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has visited Mushin for an on-the-spot assessment following a reported Improvised Explosive Device (IED) scare in the area.

The Police Command, in a statement, said operatives of its Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit were immediately deployed after receiving a distress call alleging an explosion in the early hours of Monday.

According to the command, the area was cordoned off while officers carried out a comprehensive search and recovery operation, after which the location was declared safe and free of any explosive threat.

The Commissioner of Police, during the visit, urged residents to remain calm and continue their normal activities, assuring them that adequate security measures had been put in place to protect lives and property.

Incident Scene

Vanguard reports that the explosion occurred at the Shoe Materials Market area of Mushin, with preliminary findings indicating that an IED was allegedly planted beneath a vehicle and detonated during an attempt to start it.

The Baale of Oke Mushin Community, Tajudeen Faronbi, said the incident occurred around 1 a.m., adding that he alerted security operatives after residents raised concerns over a suspicious vehicle.

He said that security operatives arrived in time, secured the area and prevented residents from approaching the scene.

One person was reportedly injured in the incident and taken to a hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition.

The police command further reiterated its commitment to maintaining safety across Lagos and urged residents to disregard rumours that could cause panic.
