US Deports Nigerian Over Criminal Convictions

The United States (US) has deported a Nigerian named Ayodeji Ajayi after multiple criminal convictions, including domestic violence, as part of its ongoing immigration enforcement efforts.

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) revealed this in a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, stating that Ajayi had remained in the country illegally after entering on a student visa nearly two decades ago.

The agency said that “Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi, of Nigeria, entered the United States in 2007 on a student visa and eventually left school, but failed to leave the country.”

ICE stated that instead of leaving the US after completing school, Ajayi accumulated a lengthy criminal record.

It said, “Instead, he stayed in the US and got to work on a lengthy rap sheet” that includes convictions for domestic violence, trespassing, intimidation and obstruction.

Additionally, ICE said that his criminal history includes charges of “kidnapping, rape and family neglect.”

The agency attributed the deportation to the immigration enforcement policies of President Donald Trump.

It stated, “Thanks to @POTUS’ commitment to getting criminal illegal aliens out of this country, Ajayi will be leaving the United States shortly.”

The agency said Ajayi will be deported from the country, but it did not say when the deportation happened.

It also did not give details about his offences, including where he was convicted or the status of other charges against him.

The deportation comes as the Trump administration continues its crackdown on undocumented immigrants with criminal records, with immigration authorities increasing arrests and removals across the United States.
