Meta-owned social media platform Instagram suffered a widespread outage on Tuesday, preventing thousands of users worldwide from accessing their accounts.
According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, reports of problems surged at about 10:10 p.m., with more than 8,100 users reporting issues as of the time of filing. Users attempting to log back into the platform encountered “5xx Server Error” messages, indicating server-side errors.
In the United States, complaints began to increase at about 4:55 p.m. Eastern Time, with users reporting difficulties logging in to and using the application.

The disruption prompted many users to turn to X to check whether others were experiencing the same issue.
Meta had not issued an official statement on the cause of the outage as of the time of filing.
The latest disruption came just a week after Facebook and Instagram experienced another widespread outage, preventing millions of users worldwide from accessing their accounts.
That earlier incident affected Facebook’s website, mobile app and Messenger service, with many users reporting they had been automatically logged out of their accounts.
