Powerful twin earthquakes rocked Venezuela, leaving more than 50,000 people missing, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher told AFP on Friday.
The United Nations’ aid chief warned that rescuers expect the current death toll of over 500 individuals to rise significantly in the coming days.
Fletcher described the rescue operations as a highly complex emergency response.
Emergency workers face a massive task as they dig through the rubble to locate survivors and secure the disaster zones.
