Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on residents of Plateau State to unite across political, religious and ethnic lines, saying the state has the potential to become an economic powerhouse.

Shettima spoke on Saturday during the wedding reception of Nanbam Mutfwang, daughter of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, in Jos.

The Vice President said the union, which brought together the North and the South, symbolised that what binds Nigerians together far outweighs whatever seeks to divide the nation.

“We need to build bridges; we need to embrace one another. Challenges bring forth the character of leaders,” Shettima said.

He noted that while Plateau faces challenges, they are not insurmountable with the right calibre of leadership. He described the stakeholders present as the movers and shakers of Plateau politics.

“We can transform Plateau into an economic powerhouse. Though the beautiful city faces challenges that threaten to make it a depressed economy, stakeholders in Jos have the capacity to change the narrative and add value,” he said.

Shettima urged the people to unite and live together as brothers.

Governor Mutfwang expressed delight at the Vice President’s presence and conveyed his appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s goodwill.

He thanked the National Government for its sustained reforms in enhancing security in the state and the country at large.

“We must continue to forge ahead with hope,” Mutfwang said.
