Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has commended the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, and the Osun State Police Command for the arrest of a suspect linked to the killing of a man in the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the governor praised the police for arresting Saheed Kareem, popularly known as Tanfeani.
According to Alimi, Tanfeani is alleged to have been involved in the killing of Ezekiel Olapade near the premises of the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat last Sunday.
While commending the police for the arrest, Adeleke called on the police to intensify the manhunt for other suspects he identified as Asiri Eniba, Delaw, Ojuyobo, Aleba, Lucifer and Lasisi, whom he alleged have been terrorising parts of the state.
The governor also urged the police to ensure a thorough investigation into the case and prosecute those found culpable in accordance with the law.
“While urging the police to ensure thorough investigation and proper prosecution of the suspect,” the statement said, the governor reiterated his earlier demand for a change in the leadership of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Osun State Police Command.
Adeleke argued that the continued leadership of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Osun State Police Command by an officer identified as Eluku had become “a dark spot,” alleging that the officer was associated with Asiri Eniba and other individuals whom the governor described as APC thugs.
“The governor identified the continued presence of Eluku as the head of the anti-cultism team as a dark spot due to his identification with Asiri Eniba and other APC thugs,” the statement read.
The governor said the arrest of Tanfeani and another suspect, Akilapa, represented progress in the state’s efforts to tackle politically motivated violence but stressed that the authorities must demonstrate a sustained commitment to enforcing the law.
“For now, we thank the IGP, the Deputy Inspector General of Police and others who made this possible,” he added.
